DTF printers have revolutionised the process of creating printed heat transfers for garments. They are faster than vinyl print & cut machines and after the initial setup, most models require very little manual input to produce heat-press-ready logos.
DTF logos also provide vibrant colour, high stretch and excellent wash-fastness. They can also be heat pressed onto a wide range of fabric types.
Current prices for DTF print solutions range from $9,995 to more than $50,000 depending upon size, speed and country of manufacture.
Dye sublimation printers are used to produce dye sublimation prints that are transferred onto white polyester fabric or other items that are pre coated with a white or clear polymer film. During the heat pressing procedure the colour (dye) from the image is transferred into the polyester fibres or polymer film coating creating a permanent image that has no detectible feel.
Dye sub printed images are extremely resistant to washing, cannot be detected by touch and in the case of fabric, it allows the fabric to breath making it ideal for sports and workwear.
Prices range from under $1,000 (desktop size) to more than $16,000 (wide format) depending upon size, speed and country of manufacture.
The Brother GTX Pro is what we call a Hybrid printer. It can be used for Direct-To-Garment (DTG) printing on cotton T shirts and for Direct-To-Film (DTF) for creating heat transfer logos that can be used on most types of garments and fabric types.

Print & Cut machines provide greater flexibility because they can be used to produce heat transfers for garments and can also be used to produce stickers and signage. However, the process required to produce heat press logos for garments is considerably slower then DTF and requires a much higher level of labour for creation of cut lines, weeding and applying transfer film.
