  • Embroidery bobbin thread What makes a good bobbin thread?

  • It does not need to be any thicker than 120s count. Why? because thick bobbin thread makes the embroidery very bulky on the underside and you don't get nearly so much thread on each bobbin fill - so the bobbin runs out much sooner.

  • It should be of an even thickness. Unevenness or slubs in the thread cause sudden changes in bobbin tension which can spoil the embroidery, make top thread tension adjustment difficult to maintain and might even cause "birds nests" or thread jams in the needle plate hole.

  • Embroidery bobbin thread doesn't need to be very strong. If it is stronger than the embroidery thread you use then it's a waste and may be spoiling your embroidery too.

  • Bobbin thread should be soft so that it does not cause irritation to the skin and so that it assists in producing a secure tie off at the end of each section or design.
Whether you prefer the highest quality 100% cotton or our very popular polyester bobbin threads you can be sure that we have tested them very well and stock only the products which our customers tell us work best for them.
