1. I use another make of embroidery software - Can I trade-it in on a new Wilcom?
Yes! If you use any other make of commercial embroidery software, then you can trade-in your software against the equvalent or higher level of Wilcom. As condition of the trade-in you are required to return the security device and software for your existing (legal) software.

2. I have an older version which uses a Trysoft security card and I need to buy a new computer - can I do that?
New computers do not have the type of expansion slots required for the Trysoft card. Your only option is to find an old computer which still works or better still upgrade to ES-2006 which uses a USB dongle (protection device)

3. My Wilcom/Punchant/Tajima software has a parallel type security device. Is there anything I need to look out for when I buy a new computer or update to ES-2006?
Buying a new computer?
Make sure that your new computer has a parallel (printer) port for the dongle and don't forget that your old version may not run on Windows XP.
Upgrading from an old version of Wilcom, Punchant or Tajima software which has a parallel dongle, to ES-2006?
This is a three stage procedure and requires that the computer you use must have a parallel port. Why? Because as a part of the update, the access codes are transfered from the old dongle into the new dongle. To do this you must have both the old dongle (parallel) and the new dongle (USB) plugged in at the same time.
You should complete the update on your old computer and then install ES-2006 on the new computer.
ES-2006 update - 3 stages
1. Install the new ES-2006 program & re-start the computer
2. Verify the new ES security device (dongle) and transfer all the codes from the old dongle into the new one (The Brain Transfer)
3. Input the new security codes for ES-2006 into the new Red dongle
The problem is that new laptop computers and many new desk top computers do not have a parallel port which means that you have to complete the upgrade - at least up to the 'Brain transfer' using the old computer. After the brain transfer is complete you can then input the new ES-2006 codes into the Red dongle. After this you install ES-2006 into your new computer, plug in the Red dongle and start the ES program. After the ES program has verified that the dongle is in fact a geuine, legal Wilcom dongle then it will start up.

4. I heard Windows XP can't format DD (720Kb) floppies?
Yes it's true that XP does not have a 720Kb floppy format function as standard. It can do it if you know the DOS commands but an easier way is to use Wilcom's DD floppy format utility. You can download it here for free. It's approx 1Kb in size

5. Wilcom V9 won't recognise the dongle
In some installations of Wilcom V9 running on Windows XP it has been reported that the security device cannot be found when starting the ES program.
1. It is very important that you do NOT plug in the security device until the Wilcom installation program requests you to do so. If you plug the security device in too soon then Windows may install a generic Windows USB driver. This will not work and will not allow the correct Wilcom security device drivers to install properly.
2. If you have installed the Wilcom program correctly and did not plug in the dongle until requested to do so and still the dongle is not recognised then you should download and install this latest version 5.25 of the HASP (dongle) driver
It is approx 4.31 megabytes in size.
DOWNLOAD & INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

8. I have heard that there are problems with new computers writing old machine (non DOS) formats like .FDR and Melco
This is also true. Many new computer floppy disc drives cannot format, read or write the older non-DOS embroidery machine floppies. This is not a limitation of Wilcom software but a change in the computer hardware technology.
This is also true of external USB floppy disc drives used on laptops
The options:
Protect your old computer as if it were the crown jewels, then use Wilcom's Free Truesizer program only for formatting and writing non DOS formats
OR
Convince your customer to update their machine or floppy drive to accept HD format discs, CF cards or direct machine connection
